A research of new data liable to provide a more accurate image of the Germain Tableware, viewed from multiple standpoints, led us to High Court Judge João Rodrigues Vilar, a figure who is inseparable from the large dining tables of Queen Maria I’s reign.
Vilar’s regular and detailed records, upon confrontation with chronicle reports, enabled us to trace the life of the first Crown tableware.
We sought to highlight and document the presence of jewelry and porcelain from the Aveiro Household.
We will see how the Tableware and this relevant set were reserved for important, sporadic public banquets in the presence of the Royal Family, and how they are no doubt consisting with the Court’s option of not favouring the regular organization of “public eating”, as foreseen by the “Ceremonial” as a crucial rite in its assertion.
