On the occasion of the wedding (1862) of King Luís I to Maria Pia of Savoy, this room was the setting for a grand ball. Decorated with two large chandeliers, three gilded sideboards, sideboards and mirrors from the 19th century, it is a versatile space with good acoustics.

For almost two centuries, this was the room where the nation's highest representatives gathered. The Beija-Mão ceremony took place here. In this room, you can admire two thrones from the second half of the 18th century and the recently restored murals by Máximo Paulino dos Reis and Manuel Piolti, which depict Heroic Virtue on the ceiling and Minerva, Mercury, Apollo and Diana on the cornices. An imposing bronze chandelier with 180 lights adds grandeur and brilliance to this space, where you can enjoy a welcome drink or cocktail.

Currently restored to its original early 19th-century appearance, this was the Ballroom during the reign of King Luís I. The decorative painting, by Arcângelo Foschini, covers the walls and ceiling. On the west wall is an allegory of the ‘Happy Return of King João VI’ to the Kingdom. On the north and south walls, the artist painted four Atlases and the four Continents. Three beautiful chandeliers complete the decoration of this room and enhance the splendour of any ceremony.

In the distribution of guests at ceremonies held in this Palace, this was the room reserved for representatives of the legislative and judicial powers, the military, and high-ranking civil and ecclesiastical dignitaries. The mural painting decorating the room, dated 1823, depicts King João IV at the time of the Restoration and is by José da Cunha Taborda.
The ceiling is by Domingos Sequeira and represents Justice and Concord.

On gala days, this was the room of the archers – the guard of honour.
The ceiling painting depicts a soft blue sky dotted with clouds within an elliptical architectural structure. The floor, with its geometric design, is made of black and white marble. This room has a large east-facing balcony, ideal for use when the weather permits, from where you can enjoy an excellent view.
