This is the first room in the king's private quarters and it was considered an indispensable space. Musical evenings between friends were frequent and King Luís himself played the flute, piano and cello. He also sang in a baritone voice. The cello was by far his favourite instrument, for which he composed and which he learned to play when he was just eight years old.
Queen Maria Pia played the piano and sang.
Many of the paintings that decorate the room belonged to the king's private collection.
The ceiling decoration features the arms of Portugal, the house of Bragança and the main portuguese military orders in eight medallions.
