A true state representation room, this was where the monarch dispatched official business. The reception day was on Thursday.
At Christmas and Carnival, this room took on a more familiar function, as it was here that the Queen organised the parties for the Princes (D. Carlos - future king D. Carlos I, and D. Afonso).
Of particular note are the six tapestries depicting episodes from the life of Alexander the Great, made in Aubusson in France in the 17th century.
The large "Etruscan" vase in Sèvres porcelain was given by the French government of the Third Republic to King Luís in 1874.
Also of French origin are the neo-rocaille seating furniture and the skeleton clock.
We can also see a marble bust of King Pedro V (brother and predecessor of King Luís I).
